"GLADIATOR"

"GLADIATOR"

Today I'd like to talk about one of my favourite films, "Gladiator". As I have studied Classical Philology, I love the Greek and Roman world, that's why!

The American film was released in 2000 and it was directed by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe. The film lasts 155 minutes and its language is English.

"Gladiator" is an epic historical drama. Russell Crowe portrays a fictional character, who is a loyal Roman general called Maximus Decimus Meridius. Maximus is betrayed when the emperor's ambitious son, Commodus, murders his father and seizes the throne. Maximus is reduced to slavery, but he succeeds to rise through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murder of his family and his emperor.

The film received positive reviews and it was a success. "Gladiator" received positive reviews including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe.

I recommend this film. It's great to know a little bit more about the Roman world and Maximus is such a loyal and brave person! For me the film has achieved a great result: good Roman clothes, great buildings (almost real!), etc. , which is not easy in films and it has a very good story behind all the violence you can find in the amphitheatre.
